The Challenge
The client was operating a mission-critical banking application on a private cloud environment that had become increasingly expensive and complex to manage. Rising infrastructure maintenance costs, coupled with high proprietary licensing overheads, were impacting overall IT efficiency and scalability.
Additionally, the existing environment struggled to consistently meet stringent regulatory requirements, particularly RBI guidelines and PCI-DSS compliance, due to limited native security controls, manual audit processes, and fragmented governance.
The disaster recovery (DR) setup was another major concern. Failover processes were largely manual, resulting in recovery times of several hours, which posed significant business risk for a regulated banking workload where high availability and rapid recovery are critical.
The Solution
Celestibia Solutions designed and executed a secure, compliant, and cost-optimized migration strategy by moving the banking application from the private cloud to Microsoft Azure.
We began with a comprehensive workload assessment and designed a secure Azure Landing Zone aligned with banking regulatory standards. The solution emphasized security-by-design, compliance automation, and high availability.
Key application workloads were migrated to Azure Virtual Machines, while the legacy Oracle database was modernized and migrated to Azure SQL Managed Instance, significantly reducing licensing and operational complexity.
To strengthen compliance and operational visibility, we implemented Azure Security Center, Azure Monitor, and Azure Backup, ensuring continuous security posture management, centralized logging, and reliable data protection. The new architecture was designed to support automated audits and rapid disaster recovery.
How We Did It (Technical Approach)
Performed a detailed discovery and dependency analysis using Azure Migrate to assess private cloud workloads.
Replicated and migrated virtual machines from the private cloud to Azure Virtual Machines with minimal disruption.
Used Azure Database Migration Service (DMS) to migrate Oracle databases to Azure SQL Managed Instance, ensuring data integrity and performance optimization.
Designed and enforced compliance controls using Azure Policy, Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), and Azure Security Center, aligned with RBI and PCI-DSS requirements.
Implemented centralized monitoring, logging, and alerting using Azure Monitor.
Configured Azure Backup and Disaster Recovery to meet business continuity objectives.
Executed a staged migration and cutover strategy, limiting application downtime to less than 45 minutes.
